Locator
Locating underground cables—as well as other underground facilities—is an integral pre-excavation process mandated by laws and guided by a number of industry standards. During excavations, underground cables become at risk of getting damaged. In fact, utility strikes are a common occurrence on construction sites, resulting in compromised worker and public safety, repair costs, and work delay, among others.
Based on the 2018 Damage Information Reporting Tool (DIRT) Report of the Common Ground Alliance (CGA), some of the most common root causes of utility strikes include failure to call 811 before digging, improper excavation practices, and inaccurate marking of underground facilities.
Furthermore, the CGA also noted that locator errors are one of the common causes of strike incidents. This emphasizes the need for understanding how cable locators work as well as how different cable types can be most accurately detected.

Loc3 Series 5-Watt Broadband Transmitter
Key Features:
* Lightweight – Only 7.15 lbs. / 3.24 kg with Li-ion battery
* SD mode for positive location in congested areas
* AC/DC external power source
* Built-in AVO meter
The 5-Watt broadband transmitter has selectable induction and direct connection frequencies from 98Hz to 200kHz, SD mode (Signal Direction), fault find and true resistance measurement up to 1 Mohm. The two inch by one-inch dot matrix display with LED backlight shows output current, connection type, volts, resistance, frequency, volume, battery condition and high voltage warnings.
The optional Transmitter Link (Tx-Link) installed in the receiver and transmitter, remote operation of the transmitter from the receiver is possible. The range of the radio transmitter link depends on having a clear “line of sight” between receiver and transmitter but is typically around 300m /985 ft. Signal Direction (SD) mode feature verifies if the line being located is the target that the transmitter is connected to.
When a transmitter is connected to a target line, the signal travels along it and finds the easiest way to travel back, usually via the ground and ground stake. However, very often the signal will travel back along adjacent utilities which offer an easier route. As a result, there can be multiple signals radiating from utilities in the area making it difficult to identify the target line. These return signals are typically traveling in the opposite direction than the applied signal. The Signal Direction feature identifies which direction the signal is flowing and hence the target line.
Packaged in a lightweight, rugged, ergonomic IP54 housing, the transmitter provides consistent current output in direct connect, clamp or induction modes and protection against inadvertent connection to incoming voltages up to 240V.

FALCON EQUALS FLEXIBILITY
Falcon F5 automatically scans over 1000 frequencies and chooses
the best within each band for your job site. Drill with two bands, and
switch between them mid-bore as interference conditions change.
Using 25 frequencies simultaneously allows you to get the job done
the first time, while the competition is limited to using only one
frequency at a time while drilling.
F5 Falcon System is the flagship system of the DigiTrak Falcon line of guidance systems. Falcon technology represents a significant advancement in helping crews to overcome one of the biggest obstacles to completing their underground drilling projects: active interference. Falcon F5 provides crews with Falcon technology alongside all the advanced features of the classic F5 system, like DataLog, fluid pressure monitoring, and dual frequency bands. In today’s competitive underground drilling landscape of deeper bores and more challenging jobsites, interference has emerged as one of the primary obstacles to completing HDD installations on time. Interference varies from jobsite to jobsite, at different points within the same jobsite, and even with time of day. The Falcon approach involves dividing a wide range of frequencies into bands, then selecting the frequencies that are least susceptible to the interference in each band. Falcon F5 has nine bands that each use the bestperforming of hundreds of frequencies between 4.5 and 45 khz. The system is easy to learn and simple to use every day.

Metal and Magnetic Locators
The Maggie is a pistol-grip magnetic locator that combines sensitivity and precision with single-handed operation and a visual display. The Maggie combines the best features of two flagship Schonstedt products: the sensitivity and precision of the GA-52Cx, and the single-handed operation of the GA-92XT.
Highest Sensitivity
Our HeliFlux sensors provide high sensitivity allowing Schonstedt products to detect products down to a depth of 5.5m / 18’
Ergonomic and Durable
We have been working with users of Magnetic Locators since 1953 and have designed a suite of products that are great to use for extended periods and rugged enough to survive the rigors of every day usage
Dust & Water Resistant (Rated IP54)
Waterproofing allows users to continue their search for ferrous metal objects in inclement weather, and even if they are under shallow snow or water!
Easy access battery removal
Schonstedt Magnetic Locators are light on battery usage, but even when new batteries are required, it is quick and easy to swap over…no tools, no messing, no hold-up
Expanding bar graph indicates polarity (positive or negative) and relative signal strength
Our bar graphs aid in pinpointing the shape and the exact location of the extremities of buried ferrous objects, helping to reduce mis-digs and false locates
HeliFlux® sensors
Schonstedt’s unique, patented HeliFlux magnetic field sensors provide much higher sensitivity than the standard ring core sensors that most of the competition uses, giving users of Schonstedt products a clear advantage when searching for deeply buried objects and when wanting to pinpoint the exact shape of utilities
Modular construction and high performance components
The design and construction of our magnetic locators make them that rare combination of high performance, rugged and also straightforward to maintain and repair, leading to low overall total cost of ownership

Usage-logging with GPS positioning, understand how your technicians operate
The RD8200G locator automatically stores all locate parameters providing a comprehensive picture of field operations.
Supervisors or health and safety personnel can analyze the data to assess usage patterns in order to ensure adherence to best-practice and to identify training needs before poor work habits develop.
The information can also be shared with partners or clients to evidence task completion or compliance to service requirements.
Usage data can be exported in multiple file formats – for example KML for Google Maps to confirm where and when work was performed.
Industrial grade display, for outdoor usage
RD8200 locators and transmitters use transflective low power LCD technology that uses ambient light to improve screen readability in direct sun light and extend battery life.
TruDepth™ and current readout, for extra assurance
Radiodetection’s TruDepth displays precise depth and current measurements, only when the RD8200 is correctly oriented above the target. Measurement consistency gives high confidence that the correct line is being followed.
High performance audio and vibration alerts, for noisy environments
The RD8200 waterproof speaker housing has been tuned to provide optimum resonance for your choice of high or low frequency tones.
5 power output audio levels and vibration alerts, assist technicians working in challenging situations.
Current Direction, track the right line
Identify your target amongst a number of parallel utilities by applying a specialized CD signal from a Tx-10 transmitter. CD arrows displayed on the locator confirm you are tracing your target line.
Power Filters™, works where other locators wont
When a transmitter can’t be connected, tracing individual power lines through dense networks can be a real challenge. Conflicting or powerful signals confuse or combine to create a wash of signal.
A single key press enables the use of the harmonic properties of power signals to establish if a signal comes from one source, or from multiple cables which you can then trace and mark.
Dynamic Overload Protection, rejects unwanted interference
Automatically filters out interference, enabling use in electrically noisy environments such as near substations or overhead power lines.
Swing Warning System, drives correct usage
Locators must be kept perpendicular to the ground for best accuracy. RD8200 locators have a built-in gyroscopic measurement system which alerts the user of excessive swing, driving correct usage.
Made in the UK – No compromise on quality
The RD8200 locator and transmitters are designed and manufactured in the Great Britain and are subjected to a rigorous test regime before leaving our factory.
Locate with confidence - Self-test
Confirm the integrity of the measurement system on- site. Self-test applies signals to the locating circuitry as well as checking display and power functions.
Use it all day, day after day -Light weight and ergonomic
The RD8200 has been design around the operator needs. The iconic industrial design provides an exceptionally well balanced, and light weight tool which is comfortable for extended periods of use.

vLoc3-MLA (Marker Locator Adapter)
VM-510FFL Fault Locator
The vLoc3-Pro utility locator introduces new innovative tools for locating buried utilities assuring damage prevention while gathering information for analysis. With two sets of screened 3D antennas signal distortion is easily detected and displayed on the bright full color display. Along with classic locate screens the vLoc3 series locators offer new locate perspective screens of Vector Locate for fully automatic non-walk over locating, Transverse Graph showing both peak and null simultaneously providing immediate measurement of signal distortion, Plan View showing the relative orientation of the cable at any angle, and a new graphical Sonde screen with guidance arrows leading to the sonde location even when it is vertical.
The highly user configurable vLoc3 series contains eight passive locate modes, fault-find mode, SD (showing direction of outgoing current), and a range of configurable frequencies from 16Hz to 200 kHz. Audio and mechanical vibration alerts can also be configured by the user providing warnings for shallow depth, overload, overhead cables, and excessive swinging. Plug-in-play options for the receiver include optional Bluetooth module useable with external GPS devices and EMS foot to locate buried markers.
The vLoc3-MLA (Marker Locator Adapter) is designed for easy, fast and accurate location of buried EMS markers. Once located the MLA will give depth of cover to the buried marker with the touch of a button.
The MLA attaches to the bottom of vLoc3-Pro, vLoc3-9800 and vLoc3-5000 receivers. When attached and pluged in to the receivers two marker related operating modes are enabled. In the dedicated marker mode, the receiver screens show a peak bar graph with the signal strength from the marker, the marker type and depth to the marker. In the dual marker mode all the above are shown in addition to the standard utility locate screen including left/right arrows and compass.
The plug-and-play MLA will detect any one of nine marker types, in good conditions, buried to a depth of 6’/2m and large flat markers to 9’/3m.
Classic Mode Unique in all display modes are the colour codes which give the level of distortion and confidence level. The Classic Screen has all the functions normally seen on a classic cable locator.
Vector Mode This view is the Vector screen which is a side view, or cross section view. The inset view is the top pan view. Combined the user has a true 3D view. Vector mode allows to measure utilities from a location which is offset. This would potentially allow to detect a utility that is located on a busy road from the safe location of a sidewalk.
Transverse Mode The Transverse Plot screen is used to analyse the field shape at a particular location. This enables the user to get a better feel for the reliability of the data gathered. Two plots are generated simultaneously
In non-distorted fields, the peak and null positions should coincide, and the shape of the fields should be symmetrical about the centre line.
Plan Mode The Plan View screen shows a picture as if you were viewing the line from above the ground. When the blue line in the centre and pointing forward/back you are directly over the line and pointing in the direction of the line. Red, blue and green colour of the line show the level of distortion and confidence level.
Sonde Locating Mode The Sonde give a different “Peak” pattern and there are three distinct peaks – a small peak – a large peal - a small peak with two “Nulls” between the peaks. The Sonde is located under the centre of the “large peak” |
