Olympus HydroFORM Corrosion Inspection Scanners - NEW (HydroFORM)
An easy-to-deploy 2-axis encoding phased array (PA) solution, the semiautomated HydroFORM™ scanner enables fast and reliable wall-thickness mapping and midwall damage detection by acquiring high-resolution data of large surfaces in minimal time.

To optimize the productivity of raster scanning, the HydroFORM system is equipped with several efficiency-boosting features:

Integrated X and Y axis encoders
Smart indexing button
Index position and coupling indicators
Scan speed check
Efficient bubble management
Easy-to-index magnetic wheels
Braking system

Easily adapting to curvatures 4 in. OD (101 mm) and greater, this PA solution facilitates a wide range of applications including:

Monitoring wall-thickness reductions due to corrosion, abrasion, and erosion
Detecting midwall damage, such as hydrogen-induced blistering or manufacturing-induced lamination, and differentiating these anomalies from loss of wall thickness

High-Performance Corrosion Mapping for Rough and Uneven Surfaces

Achieve immersion-tank-quality phased array inspection without concerns about water coupling. The HydroFORM scanner's unique low-flow water-column design with foam gaskets conforms to the surface, eliminating the need for a wedge.

Other innovative features of the HydroFORM water-coupling system:

  • Coupling check LED indicates when the water supply is too low
  • Gasket protector to prolong the use-life

ScanDeck™ Module

Integrated Controls and Status Indicators

The ScanDeck module is like your scanning dashboard, situated directly in your eyeline while you operate the HydroFORM scanner.

Using a combined HydroFORM and OmniScan™ X3 series solution, you fully benefit from all the functionalities of the ScanDeck module.

Control button:

  • Start the data acquisition on the OmniScan X3 unit
  • Switch between guided and freehand scanning modes
  • Toggle between index and scan axis scanning

Indicator LEDs:

  • Index position guidance
  • Insufficient coupling warning
  • Alert when maximum scan speed exceeded
  • Active encoder (X or Y)

Complete PA Solution

HydroFORM Scanner and OmniScan™ X3 Series

By combining a water column system with gate synchronization on the interface echo available in the OmniScan X3 software, the HydroFORM provides optimum near-surface resolution, precision measurements, and an enormous improvement in flaw characterization over conventional UT.

  • Easy gate synchronization with the front wall for quick remaining wall assessment
  • Optimized coupling
  • Wedge reflection and frequency filtering is eliminated
  • Provides excellent near-surface resolution
  • Up to 1mm x 1mm resolution

Olympus FlexoFORM Corrosion Inspection Scanners - NEW (FlexoFORM)
The Power of Flexibility

Pipe elbows are susceptible to damage, such as from flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC), but inspecting them is challenging since their shape changes from convex to concave, and there are many possible pipe diameters. The FlexoFORM™ solution integrates flexible phased array probe technology in a scanner to solve these challenges. This solution can be used to collect easy-to-interpret data on elbows with diameters ranging from 4.5 in. OD up to flat and offers many benefits, including:

100% elbow coverage
Intuitive 2D C-scan imaging
High-resolution data (1 mm × 1 mm)
Fast elbow wall thickness measurement
Constant coupling maintained by water-column system

High-Resolution Data
The scanner is used with an OmniScan® X3, MX2, or SX instrument to detect and measure different types of damages or anomalies such as remaining wall thickness, corrosion pitting, and mid-wall lamination or inclusions. High-density data combined with the multiple views available on the flaw detector or OmniPC™ software provide clear images of the elbow’s condition and make data interpretation faster and easier.

The scan direction is encoded, and there’s an indexing button positioned directly on the scanner to perform index increments in the second axis.

Magnetic wheels keep the scanner firmly attached to the pipe, while a foam gasket is permanently in contact with the surface to keep the water column filled.

The scanner uses a water wedge that minimizes water consumption and provides easy air bubble management while enabling the scanner to conform to the elbow’s convex and concave shapes, couple to surfaces with moderate roughness, and synchronize data to the front wall.

Longitudinal scanning

This scanning configuration is useful for smaller pipes or when the region of interest is concentrated within a specific sector around the pipe. The FlexoFORM solution's longitudinal scanning ability also makes it a powerful tool for inspecting water walls in power generation boilers.

Small-diameter elbow manual scanning
A small-diameter wedge series is available to inspect pipes smaller than 4.5 in. Users can manually scan the extrados (outer curve) of elbows or pipes from 1.3 in. OD up to 4 in. OD. For encoded C-scans, the SFA1-SMALL wedge series can be fitted with a Mini-Wheel™ encoder.

Automated scanning
In some applications, scanning in the longitudinal direction is preferred over scanning circumferentially. The SFA1-AUTO wedge series works on pipes with diameters from 8.625 in. OD and up, including flat surfaces.
