Vibration Analyzer

Vibration analysis (VA), applied in an industrial or maintenance environment aims to reduce maintenance costs and equipment downtime by detecting equipment faults.VA is a key component of a condition monitoring (CM) program, and is often referred to as predictive maintenance (PdM). Most commonly VA is used to detect faults in rotating equipment (Fans, Motors, Pumps, and Gearboxes etc.) such as imbalance, misalignment, rolling element bearing faults and resonance conditions.

VA can use the units of Displacement, Velocity and Acceleration displayed as a time waveform (TWF), but most commonly the spectrum is used, derived from a fast Fourier transform of the TWF. The vibration spectrum provides important frequency information that can pinpoint the faulty component.

The fundamentals of vibration analysis can be understood by studying the simple Mass-spring-damper model. Indeed, even a complex structure such as an automobile body can be modeled as a "summation" of simple mass–spring–damper models. The mass–spring–damper model is an example of a simple harmonic oscillator. The mathematics used to describe its behavior is identical to other simple harmonic oscillators such as the RLC circuit.

Note: This article does not include the step-by-step mathematical derivations, but focuses on major vibration analysis equations and concepts. Please refer to the references at the end of the article for detailed derivations.

Adash A4400 VA4 Pro II Vibration Analyzer - NEW (A4400 VA4 Pro II)
The A4400 instrument contains these measurement modes:
  • Data Collector (Route measurements)
  • Balancer
  • Signal Recorder

FFT spectrum with 25 600 lines

  • Extremely fast data acquisition
  • 4 channel simultaneous measurement of AC signals with tachometer
  • 4 DC channels for process measurements
  • Balancing Advisor helps you with balancing
  • New intuitive graphics interface for balancing

Measurement of 4 channel simultaneously gives a lot of flexibility in fault diagnosis. For instance, you can get a good insight of the alignment by measuring the radial and axial vibration across the coupling of the motor and pump.

120Gb allows 35 hours continuous recording of 4 channel raw signals up to 25.6kHz, so you can make the diagnosis later; and won't miss any transient behavior of the machine.

Simultaneous Measurement

Multi-measurements can be measured in parallel for a single measurement point, which save time; and improve consistency in data especially when the machine speed or running condition varies with time.

Example of multi-measurements:

  • Overall Velocityaccording to ISO-2732
  • Time signal (1k high pass filtered) for inspection of impacts due to bearing fault
  • FFT spectrum 0-20kHz, 25,600 lines
  • Envelope Spectrum

Balancing

  • A4400 VA4 Pro provides professional 2-plane balancing function.
  • The whole balancing process will be guided on screen with easy-to-understand figures and instructions.
  • The weights will be automatically split and calculated for situations where the location of weights is limited, e.g. fan.

Data Collector

A4400 VA4Pro can be used as a Data Collector for routine data collection.

Parallel Measurements are performed simultaneously, that save time in data collection at each measurement point. It also improve consistency of data especially when the speed or process condition of the machine varies with time.

For experienced user, historical data can be downloaded for on-site trending and comparison, so that diagnosis can made on spot immediately.

Run-up / Coast Down

Run-up / Coast-down can be easily carried out on A4400 VA4Pro. Raw time data can also be recorded as a backup for critical machine. 4 DC Process Parameters can be measured at the same time for correlation analysis with vibration readings.

Different graph is available for run-up / coast-down analysis:

Pruftechnik VIBSCANNER 2 EX Vibration Measurement Tool - NEW (VIBSCANNER 2 EX)

Safe, simple, precise

The new VibScanner 2 Ex is a next-generation, explosion protection system for quickly detecting machine vibration in hazardous work environments. Measuring simultaneously on three axes, the VibScanner 2 Ex sets the benchmark for fast and accurate measurements of machine, gear, and bearing issues.

This is the ultimate tool for fast and accurate machine vibration measurements. The VibScanner 2 Ex heightens efficiency and data quality. In just a quarter of the time of a standard data-collector, it precisely measures available data in three axes. Equipped with a triaxial sensor, it requires only one measurement point and the click of a button to begin collecting machine data.

This device is ideal for route-based maintenance jobs in environments where explosion protection standards are required. Its rugged magnetic foot of the triaxial sensor fits perfectly on the housing of any motor, pump, fan, or other rotating device, detecting vibration right near the source.

The "Triax-Effect"

The VibScanner 2 Ex will diminish worries about finding the right measurement points at the machine. Because it features a Prüftechnik triaxial sensor, just one measurement point is required instead of three separate ones. This saves considerable time without sacrificing data quality. The “Triax-Effect” enables users to obtain measurements up to four times faster than the industry standard while achieving new levels of data quality.

ones. VibScanner 2 Ex thus saves considerable time without sacrificing data quality. The “Triax-Effect” enables obtaining measurements up to four times faster than the industry standard while achieving new levels of data quality.

Speed—the root cause of all fault patterns

A unique speedfinder tool is an exclusive feature of the VibScanner 2 Ex. This tool directly evaluates the exact rotational speed of any machine from the raw measurement data. Rotational speed is crucial to determining fault patterns, particularly when operating on assets with variable rotational speeds. With the speedfinder tool, no additional measurements are necessary. Time is saved on-site, and the vibration analysis specialist has the exact machine speed available in their analysis.

Technology

VIBSCANNER 2 is the high-speed vibration data collector of the next generation.

Depending on the filter settings, it measures overall values, spectra, and time signals synchronously in 3 axes. In combination with a triaxial sensor, VIBSCANNER 2 collects even more machine condition data per measurement location.

  • Added value thanks to additional vibration data without affecting the measurement time

  • Quick data acquisition thanks to synchronous measurement in 3 axes

  • Clear channel assignment without any additional cable adapter

A triaxial sensor measures vibration in 3 perpendicular directions at once, while a single-axis sensoronly measures in one direction at a time. Certain conditions such as cocked bearing or a bent shaft can be identified in a single measurement with a triaxial sensor.

The bottom line: In combination with a triaxial sensor, VIBSCANNER 2 delivers even more comprehensive information per measurement location at the push of a button. This creates an overall image of the machine‘s health without affecting the measuring time.
